  1. Hi Naomi,
I don’t know you, but you have inspired me. I met your father at peet’s coffee, and he is a very special man. He loves you very much and is so proud of you. Thank you for sharing so vulnerably, and allowing us to be apart of your journey.

I live in Redondo Beach, and I am in the westwood area quite frequently. I want you to know that I would love to meet you, and be there for you in any way I can.

    With love,

    • hi ruthie. thanks so much for reaching out. i’m glad to hear you’ve connected with my story. i feel lucky that that this experience has given me and those around me the opportunity to connect with others in unprecedented ways. stay in touch!

  2. Had a brain tumor removed in Nov 2009 and love what you write! I make fun of my tumor all the time and have to laugh so I don’t cry! Jen

    • thanks for reading, jen! i agree that laughter can be a great way to avert an oncoming flood of tears. so many emotions have been part of the experience for me. sometimes i find myself laughing til i cry…or crying til i laugh. no matter what emotion, it’s good just to know i’m alive to feel that emotion, in that moment. hope you’ll subscribe and/or come back to read more!

  3. My favorite perk is my nails!! With me not being able to do as much around the house and taking vitamins I never really took before the doc made me has made my nails awesome!! If I do get a chance to go for a manicure the nail people all gather around my nails oooing and aahhhing!! lol Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed your sight!

    • hi cheryl. what a great perk! thanks so much for sharing your ability to find joy in the simple things, amidst all the difficult times. once i’ve gathered enough perks, i’ll plan to write a special post featuring the stories other people have told me about their silver linings. stay tuned!

  4. Hi Naomi!
I love your Cancer Perks section and reminded me of our C-Card conversation tonight. Handicap parking in LA is the jackpot of all C-Cards! I know it didn’t come at an easy cost, but as cancer survivors I guess we’re always looking for the silver lining. I hope it’s not too late for me to find a cancer perk!

    Hope to see you soon!

    • haha. it’s so funny that you mention the cancer-card dialogue! i was telling a friend tonight on my way home that our conversation tonight is totally going to be fodder for the next installment in my perks of cancer series! you definitely need to find a perk and get some good mileage out of it. 🙂 look forward to seeing you again soon! (btw, i was able to read a little bit of your blog tonight. it’s so interesting to hear the details of another kind of cancer. you do a great job describing what your experiences are like! i look forward to reading more about your journey when i have more time. i don’t see a subscribe button on your page. is there a way to get email notifications when you publish new posts?)

  5. Yes, you have to click on the blue button “Register As a Guest” and enter your email. I need to get better at writing more frequently. I guess I get lazy to post since I’m not in “active” treatment and don’t have things to update on very frequently. I used it to write posts about all of the things I was going through during treatment and recovery from surgery because my family and friends all like to hear details about everything. Plus, it was like a journal for me too to write about the whole process and to document it all. And also hopefully a guide for other breast cancer survivors on what kinds of things to expect from surgery/treatment. But I should also start using it as a space to share my thoughts and feelings the way you have done so eloquently!
